Across South-East Asia, particularly in the less developed countries, there is still a large issue regarding the inclusion of people with disabilities in mainstream society. Access to schooling and employment are still limited for those with sensory, physical or intellectual disabilities. The SPOTLIGHT project aims to begin to break down these attitudes and promote the abilities of people with disabilities using the arts as a tool to do so.
The SPOTLIGHT network brings together artists with disabilities and arts managers working in the field of inclusive arts across the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries. It promotes Asian artists with disabilities and allows inclusive arts managers, donors, festival producers around the world to have a clearer picture of the quality, variety and strength of the inclusive arts scene which is developing in Asia.
This nonprofit network aims to work with the wider international inclusive arts community in order to increase dialogue between all organisations, artists and individuals interested in this area of work and encourage them to share experience, ideas and opportunities.
