This photographic exhibition features a selection of images from an ongoing workshop programme with photographer Vandy Rattana and students from La Valla School in Takhmao, Kandal Province. The participants range from 12-19 years old and have varying degrees of mobility and physical disability. For three hours each week over four months, the students have learnt basic photography techniques; focus, lighting, framing and composition; in a currculum designed specifically for the school by Erin Gleeson (curator). The works exhibited at Bophana reflect this learning process and their everyday environment.

"The public should be more understanding towards the physical limitations imposed on artists with disabilities". Chng Seok Tin

Chng Seok Tin, lost her eyesight mid-way through her career as an established print-maker. This exhibition of prints, etchings and lino-cuts reflects her 30 years as a practicing artist. In addition to this retrospective, Seok Tin presents an interactive installation that explores concepts of vision impairment through, sound, movement and texture. This work has been developed through a series of workshops by Seok Tin in collaboration with art students and blind participants in Phnom Penh. In combining different forms and materials, their work aims to explore different modes of artistic expression for people with limited sight, inspiring us to think about different ways of seeing and shaping the visual world into a material form.

The Box Experiment (Cambodia)

23 February - 1 March

Disabled people are just like everyone. They just want to live life and do normal, everyday things like go to work, buy clothes, play sport, go to temple, sing karaoke and watch TV. But how do you do these things when you have lost your sight, your hearing or your ability to move freely? "The Box Experiment" is an interactive art piece that explores what it's like to live every day with a physical disability. Watch out for these moving boxes around town during the Festival and experience what it's like to be blind, deaf or disabled, for your-self.
