EVENTS 2009

1. Network meeting – Kampot (Cambodia)

In 2009, SPOTLIGHT team is developing a database of artists and organisations working in inclusive arts across South-East Asia. Through this research, key persons working in this field have been invited to a network meeting in Cambodia from 28th November – 2nd December 2009.

The main goal of this meeting was to think together how to develop further the inclusive arts movement (network) in Asia.

26 participants, art managers, dance and theatre facilitators, artists, administrators from 8 different countries (7 countries part of ASEAN and Japan) shared their experiences, their needs and their ideas through these 4 days. Through exercises, discussions and workshops, we identified what are the needs, the tools and the future vision of the SPOTLIGHT movement in South East-Asia.

During this meeting, the participants joined a dance workshop leaded by Ms. Chisato Minamimura, a well-known deaf choreographer from Japan.

2. International day of Disabilities, Phnom Penh (Cambodia)

On the 03 December, Epic Arts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs in Cambodia, organised an artistic program during the International day of Disabilities. More than 100 Cambodian artists with disabilities performed on the stage during the day.

3. Sala Lavalla, A Photographic Exhibition, launch book, Phnom Penh (Cambodia)

On 4th December, Epic Arts launched their first publication: Sala Lavalla, A Photographic Exhibition, in Phnom Penh. This book celebrates the ability of seeing and the seeing of ability. The carefully framed reflections provided in this book are the result of a four-month series of photographic workshops with students of Lavalla school – the only school in Cambodia designed specifically for children and young people living with physical disabilities. This collection of visual testaments demonstrates the power of images to acknowledge a community and their voice.
